Back Pain

Helping You Move More Comfortably and Get Back to Everyday Life

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek treatment, and it can affect everything from getting out of bed in the morning to enjoying a walk, gardening or simply sitting comfortably at work.

Whether your pain has come on suddenly or has been bothering you for months, Sports Therapy can help identify the cause and support your recovery.

At Bodywork by Amanda, I work with people of all ages from across Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, helping them reduce pain, improve movement and return to the activities they enjoy.

Common Causes of Back Pain

Back pain isn’t always caused by one single event. It can develop gradually or be triggered by a combination of factors.

Some of the most common causes include:

R
Poor posture
R
Lifting or twisting awkwardly
R
Gardening or DIY
R
Long periods of sitting
R
Repetitive movements
R
Sports or exercise
R
Muscle strains
R
Joint stiffness
R
Weakness or reduced mobility
Whatever the cause, understanding why your back is painful is the first step towards feeling better.

Common Causes of Back Pain

Everyone experiences back pain differently.

You might notice:

Frequently Asked Questions About Back Pain

Should I rest if I have back pain?
While it may be tempting to stay in bed or avoid movement altogether, prolonged rest isn’t usually the best approach for most types of back pain. Gentle movement and appropriate exercise often help recovery, although it’s important to avoid activities that significantly increase your pain. During your appointment, I’ll advise you on what you should and shouldn’t be doing based on your individual symptoms.
Can Sports Therapy help long-term back pain?
Yes, many people I see have been living with back pain for months or even years. A thorough assessment can help identify the factors contributing to your pain, allowing us to create a personalised treatment and rehabilitation plan aimed at improving movement, reducing discomfort and helping prevent the problem from returning.
When should I seek medical advice?
Most back pain improves with appropriate treatment and self-management. However, if you’re experiencing severe pain following a fall or accident, numbness around the saddle area, loss of bladder or bowel control, or significant weakness in your legs, you should seek urgent medical attention immediately. If you’re ever unsure, I’m happy to discuss your symptoms and advise whether Sports Therapy is appropriate or whether you should see your GP first.
Still Not Sure if Sports Therapy Can Help?
You don’t have to wait until back pain becomes a bigger problem.

Whether your pain is recent, something you’ve been managing for months, or simply stopping you doing the things you enjoy, a thorough assessment can help identify what’s contributing to your symptoms and the best way forward.

Every person is different, which is why treatment is tailored to you, your lifestyle and your goals.

If you’re unsure whether Sports Therapy is right for you, please get in touch. I’d be happy to discuss your symptoms and help you decide on the best next step.

What To Expect

During your first visit the session begins with a full consultation, which consists of a full medical history, with a history of the injury/problem being evaluated and making sure there are no contraindications to the treatment, this is followed by a physical examination in order to assess for differences between both sides of the body and to check for tightness in specific muscles.

The treatment is then carried out using a range of massage techniques, joint mobilisations and stretching.  The patient is then shown stretches and strengthening exercises to be carried out at home between treatments.
