Based in Pebworth, I welcome clients from across Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.

Common Causes of Neck & Shoulder Pain

Neck and shoulder pain can develop for many different reasons. Sometimes it follows an injury, but more often it builds up gradually over time.

Common causes include:

R
Poor posture or prolonged desk work
R
Muscle tension and stress
R
Repetitive movements
R
Sports and exercise injuries
R
Gardening or DIY
R
Lifting or carrying heavy objects
R
Reduced mobility
R
General wear and tear
Often, pain felt in the shoulder can actually originate from the neck, which is why a thorough assessment is so important.

Symptoms You May Be Experiencing

Everyone experiences neck and shoulder pain differently.

You may notice:

R
A stiff or painful neck

Frequently Asked Questions About Neck & Shoulder Pain

Why does my shoulder hurt more at night?
Many people notice their shoulder pain becomes worse when lying in bed. This can be due to the position you sleep in, inflammation within the shoulder, or because the muscles relax and the joint isn’t being supported in the same way as when you’re upright. During your assessment, I’ll help identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and advise on ways to make sleeping more comfortable.
Can poor posture cause neck and shoulder pain?
Poor posture on its own isn’t always the cause of pain, but spending long periods in the same position, such as sitting at a desk, driving or looking down at a phone, can place increased strain on the muscles and joints. Treatment, combined with simple movement and strengthening exercises, can often help reduce tension and improve comfort.
When should I seek treatment for neck or shoulder pain?
If your pain has persisted for more than a couple of weeks, is limiting your movement, affecting your sleep, or stopping you from enjoying your usual activities, it’s worth having it assessed. Early treatment can often prevent a small problem from becoming a longer-term issue.
Still Not Sure if Sports Therapy Can Help?
Neck and shoulder pain can be frustrating, especially when it starts affecting your sleep, work, hobbies or everyday activities.

You don’t have to simply put up with stiffness, tension or discomfort. A thorough assessment can help identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and how we can work together to improve your movement and comfort.

If you’re unsure whether Sports Therapy is right for you, get in touch and I’ll be happy to discuss your symptoms.

The treatment is then carried out using a range of massage techniques, joint mobilisations and stretching.  The patient is then shown stretches and strengthening exercises to be carried out at home between treatments.
